More than 200 children were treated to The Feast, a family-style Thanksgiving dinner, hosted by Hands for Hunger (H4H) and the New Providence Community Centre (NPCC).
Sponsored by The Island Game and its charitable arm TIG Foundation, “The Feast – a friendsgiving dinner,” was held on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at NPCC, Blake Road. Children from H4H’s partner agencies, including the Children’s Emergency Hostel, The Outreach Afterschool Tutoring Program and Ranfurly Home, along with student members of H4H’s Helping Hands School Clubs took part in the special celebration, which organizers said was an opportunity for children from various backgrounds to find commonality and share a meal during the holiday season.
“Hands For Hunger is extremely proud to host our first friendsgiving dinner event. The idea for this evening was inspired by our friends at the NPCC. Our hope is that each person will meet someone new and find that they have one thing in common,” said Zeleka Knowles executive director, Hands For Hunger.
The evening kicked off with a time of sharing as guests excitedly searched for 25 people they could learn something about for a chance to win Extreme Bingo. The children ranged in age from two to 16 years old, and were encouraged to share through dinner conversations, group activities at their tables and an interactive photo booth to capture the memories.
“We have always believed in the work of the Hands For Hunger organization and have supported their efforts to make a difference in Bahamian communities. When advised of this new initiative, which brought young people together, we could not help but contribute to it. We strongly believe that the youth of our country are the future, and it is our duty and privilege to nurture them,” commented Erica Laing executive director, T.I.G. Investments Ltd.
The Thanksgiving-inspired spread was prepared by the Grand Hyatt at Baha Mar team, a culinary partner and food donor of H4H. Caribbean Bottling Company Ltd., Majestic Tours and Quality Home Centre also supported the evening.
“The Feast is a prime example of what can be achieved when the community, culinary and corporate partners come together to invest in the lives of others. Breaking bread brings people together and our hope is that this event turns into an annual tradition,” said Knowles.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
