HELP US DO WHAT WE DO BEST!

Ride along in the Hands For Hunger truck, collect food from our donors, and deliver it to our agencies throughout Nassau.

You must be at least 17 years old.  (Children under 17 may be considered if they are accompanied by a parent or guardian)

Meet the driver at the Hands for Hunger HQ at the New Providence Community Center on Blake Road.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the truck driver to pick-up and deliver donated food items
  • Record the quantity of food donated on the route sheet from each food donor
  • Assist in recording the deliveries of food to recipient agencies on the route sheet
  • Utilize metal pans to collect certain food items
  • Estimate amount of food in pounds in each pan and discuss with driver
  • Label pans of food as appropriate
  • Follow the driver’s instructions on how you can assist in loading and unloading the truck
  • Practice safety precautions entering and exiting the truck. Check for traffic, pedestrians, bicyclists, and skateboarders before opening passenger door and exiting
  • Always use both hands when exiting or entering the truck
  • Wear a seat belt at all times when the truck is moving
  • Do not smoke on the truck, near or around recipient agencies or food donor property
  • Do not attempt to drive or operate the Hands for Hunger truck
  • Represent Hands for Hunger in a professional, helpful and polite way to food donors and recipient agencies
  • Maintain a positive, friendly attitude
  • Collected food is for recipient agencies only. Do not eat food that is donated
