Hands for Hunger is excited to highlight its Summer Camp Feeding Initiative for Children. This programme provides inner-city children with access to nutritious and hearty daily meals, healthy snacks, juice, and water.
Through this programme, we have the opportunity to continue a child’s physical and social development while providing nutritious meals during long vacation periods from school where children depend on meals provided at summer camps. In inner city communities children attending summer camps rely on the meals provided.
Even though summer camps are now closed due to Covid-19 emergency orders, the children can still collect the lunches from the camp grounds and enjoy them at home.
One of the summer camps we are supporting is Eljhay’s Hilltop Cottage Ministries, spearheaded by Pastor Laura Johnson-Taylor. EHCM is a long-standing H4H partner agency and plays a pivotal role in the Kemp Road Community. Eljhay’s provided 150 children access to a free educational summer camp Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Another camp that Hands for Hunger supports is the Flamingo Gardens Urban Renewal Summer Camp, which welcomed over 100 children from the Flamingo Gardens Area.
This programme is spearheaded by our Volunteer and Community Events Coordinator, Precious Fortune Thompson. Hands for Hunger continues to adapt its operations to bridge the gap for individuals experiencing food insecurity in The Bahamas.

Hands for Hunger has afforded me the opportunity to work alongside like minded individuals who believe in being of service. Being an H4H Volunteer is gratifying! My life continues to be enriched by the experience of volunteering for this organization. I chose to volunteer with H4H because the organization is well established and has become a staple in the community for providing foo to this in need. Whether I'm planting seeds, harvesting crop, packing boxes, delivering food packages or giving words of encouragement to the people being assisted, being a volunteer is a just as beneficial to me as it is to the people H4H assist.- MeshaFood Pantry Sort
